Day 4: Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge & Barbecue Night

We started late today; we woke up just in time to take the free hot breakfast offered by our hostel. After breakfast we took the 11:30 bus to Carrick-a-Rede to cross the rope bride.

It rained a bit on the hike (1km) to the bridge, but thankfully stopped when we were near the bridge, and then the skies remained clear for the rest of the day.

Waiting for our turn to cross the bridge.
The bridge from afar. It's actually only 60ft long.
The rope bridge was originally used by fishermen to access the little island of Carrickarede which had the best place to catch the migrating salmon. The rope was originally a single-handed rope bridge, but has since been fixed for the thousands of visitors that come to visit.

It's actually very easy to cross. It's about 100ft from the sea and only about 60ft long. When you reach the other side, you're rewarded with another spectacular view of Larrybane Bay.

Beautiful coast

After visiting the bridge, we decided to head to Bushmills for lunch. I checked online for the bus times and found out there was one coming soon. So we walked up to the road to the bus stop we got off from earlier. When we reached the bus stop, we realized that the bus we were supposed to take (Bus 402) didn't stop there. But we didn't see any other bus stop nearby, so we decided to wait there anyway. A few minutes later, we saw the 402 bus coming, but it went down to the reception area of Carrick-a-Rede. So we ran down to be able to catch it. We thankfully made it, and when we got to the bus, the bus driver was all: "Was that you girls I saw running down?"

We had a late lunch at 'The Village Bistro.' What a hearty spread we had.

We spent the early afternoon walking around Bushmills. It's a very very small village. We walked from our hostel to the other end of the village, to the Bushmills Distillery (but didn't go in). Then on the way back to our hostel we stopped at the supermarket to buy some food for dinner and lunch the next day.

The walk back to our hostel

We got a four bed dorm to ourselves. It was spacious enough for our maletas.
When we got back to our hostel we were invited to join the BBQ they were having for dinner. It was still a bit early so we relaxed in our room first. We went downstairs at around 8. Dinner wasn't ready yet but we played some ping pong and darts, and chatted with the hostel staff and a few other guests, and met Mickey, the cute hostel dog. The hostel is a really lovely place and the staff are very nice!

We had a good (and free) barbecue + beer for dinner, and good conversations with the hostel staff and guests.
