About me

I'm Sofia, a twenty-nine year old Filipina, a teacher by profession, and a traveler by passion. Growing up in the Philippines, I would study and later on teach during the school year, and travel during long weekends, breaks, and summer vacations. After graduating, I decided to combine my love for teaching and traveling (and Spanish) and searched for opportunities to work abroad. This blog chronicles a bit of my life in the somewhere in the world I am.

This blog started as "Sofia in Spain" and was a diary of some sort when I studied at the University of Navarre  in Pamplona, Spain for 10 months in 2008 to 2009. I took the Bridge Year Program at the University, and was mostly studying Spanish (language, culture, history, literature, communication). I kept the blog as a way to keep my family and friends back home updated with my life in Spain.

In May 2011 I returned to Spain for a month long vacation with my siblings and my cousin. We went to Madrid, Barcelona, and the Basque Country, and visited a few places we hadn't been to before - mostly Madrid's neighbours and Andalucía. I decided to try and revive this blog to document our trip. It worked, up until the last leg of the trip, and the blog became dormant for a few years.

After graduating in May 2014, I backpacked to the U.K., South America and the U.S. I gave my blog a makeover and briefly named it "105 Days of Adventure" to document my trip.

In October of the same year I moved back to Spain (and the blog went back to "Sofia in Spain") for my next adventure: a language and culture assistant with the Auxiliares de Conversación program. I spent 8 lovely months living in the charming southern city of Granada, and traveled to various cities in Spain and Europe on long weekends. I renewed for a second year in the program, but spent the summer back home in the Philippines. In October it was back to Spain, but I opted for a change of scenery and found myself placed in Valladolid, Castilla y León. I continued teaching and traveling, and sharing my experiences.

After two years in Spain, I packed up my bags and returned home to the Philippines. I stayed for six months teaching Spanish at my alma mater. After trying my hand teaching in Asia (the Philippines) and Europe (Spain), I looked to Central or South America for my next adventure. Some Google searches, researching, emails, and interviews later, I landed a job teaching English in Guatemala.
