San Miguel... a month ago!

I totally forgot to blog about San Miguel, I only remembered yesterday when I got the pictures from Winifred.

I go to mass everyday at a Parroquia nearby home. One Sunday each month, the Parroquia has a Youth Mass (Misa de Jovenes). The mass is celebrated with intentions for the youth, there is a youth choir, the reading are read by Catholic school students, etc. In October's youth mass, after the mass, an announcement was made asking for volunteers to help monitor kids for an excursion that the Parroquia is planning. Maria asked Winifred and I if we wanted to volunteer, and we said okay.

Next Sunday we woke up early, met up with the others and went to the bus stop. Where I saw about a hundred kids! I didn't realize that it would be that many. These were the kids taking Catholic lessons at the Parroquias, but apparently, this excursion was for all the Parroquias in Navarra.

We took the bus to San Miguel, a city about 30-minutes from Pamplona. The ride went by even faster with the kids singing songs. We reached the site, and I saw even more kids. We crammed into a small church and heard mass. After the mass they showed a clip from the first Narnia movie, s0mething to do with later's activity.

Afterwards we took the bus again and transferred to another site. We had merienda and the monitors were briefed about what was going to happen. The kids were divided into groups, about ten to a group, and we would be going trekking in the mountains. Along the way were about five stations in which they had to complete the task. We started, with two groups going in at the time. I was in charge of a group which went with Maria's group. After awhile though we had to split up, and fortunately, I managed to control the kids with what Spanish I knew.

The activity itself was really fun though. In each station, the station masters were dressed as characters from Narnia and it was pretty cute. Along the way there were also some guys dressed as some evil Narnian creatures (no idea what they really were) who would capture the kids, scare them, stuff like that. In one station, there was this jester who tied up members of the losing team.

After about an hour, we transfered to yet another site and had lunch picnic style. Really pretty view, and not too cold weather. The kids had confession next and listened to some talk, but Winifred, Maria, and I sneaked out to talk.

It was a pretty fun day, met some new people as well.

Pictures here!
