Day 44 & 45: Niterói

I spent all of Friday at the hotel, in the morning catching up with my sister and planning our South America trip, and the afternoon watching the games. Delcimar (the dad of B's friend and the owner of the hotel) decided to cook us some barbecue for dinner and we watched the Brasil v. Colombia game at the bar with barbecue and drinks.

Meaaaaat and cheese bread. The meat was never-ending.
Delicious meat, but super gutted for Colombia's loss. :(

The next day, B and I went out in the morning to visit the Niterói beachfront. We went to the Museu de Arte Contemporânea Niterói (R$5 for students) another of Niemeyer's architectural wonders.

The exhibits on display were equally interesting. The main exhibit was "O Brasil é o meu abismo" by Daniel Santiago.

On the top floor was a collection by the MAC and João Sattamini called "Re-existência da arte e Política", an exhibit marking the 50th anniversary of the Brazilian coup d'etat.

Interesting interactive artworks.
The viewing gallery (below). On one side you can see Niterói city and the beaches. On the other side you get a view of Pão de Açúcar, Rio city and Guanabara Bay.

Really cool window designs
Along the viewing gallery there was an exhibit that collected works from artists of various backgrounds. It was a really nice exhibit.

From the museum we walked down along the beaches of Niterói. In Rio, it's just beach after beach after beach. So beautiful.

Praia das Flexas. Funny how everyone is in the small square where the sun is.

After walking along the beach we found a place to have lunch and watched Argentina beat Belgium 1-0!

Our spread!
We headed back to the hotel to watch the Netherlands - Costa Rica game (almost fell asleep because regulation time was so boring, but finally got exciting during extra time and penalties). Then after the game we went out to look for a place to have dinner. We ended up at this small restaurant/snack bar by the road. We couldn't really figure out the menu because everything seemed so expensive, but the place was just a simple snack bar. So we went with something safe... pizza and caipirinhas. :)
