Day 54: Back in Lapa and take two at Cristo Redentor

After a slightly late night last night, we got up a little later in the morning and headed to Lapa. I brought Ange to see the Escadaria Selarón. It was really nice to be there in the morning. There were fewer tourists and we could take our time really looking at the tiles.

My favorite tile is the Spanish quote on the left.
Found a Barça tile

We walked around Lapa and found a comida a quilo restuarant and stopped for lunch. The food ended up being really good food, and the price was decent too. We were pretty happy with our find! (Tribunal Kilo, Rua do Lavradio, 154)

Walking around Lapa... it's such an interesting neighborhood. Lots of colorful houses and street art.

The Cathedral was nearby so we paid it a visit. Turned out to be so pretty! The Catedral Metropolitana de Sã Sebastião (Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian) has such an interesting conical shape and the most beautiful stained glass windows inside.

After visiting the church we met up with B and went back to Corcovado to hopefully get a better view of Cristo Redentor. We thought the lines were bad last time we went, but this time around it was worse. As we were lining up for tickets, a backpacker came up to us and offered to sell us his tickets since he and his two friends had been waiting in line to go up to Christ for hours, but couldn't wait anymore since they were leaving Rio and had to catch their bus. We bought them from him, and at least we got to skip one line. The line for the van was insanely long and we ended up waiting in line for more than 2 hours.
Happy that it was a clear day and we'd be able to see Christ and Rio.
But the sun started to set while we were waiting in line
And by the time we reached the top it was already dark. But we did get to see Christ lit up which was nice.
And the lights of Rio at night
We purposely went to Corovado in the afternoon because we wanted to see Christ with blue skies and also during sunset, but we didn't count on the lines being so long. They were mostly Argentines; I read online that 40,000 Argentines crossed the border for the finals, and joked that half of them were at Cristo that day. But the Argentines were really fun, here they are just being festive at the top.

It was B's last night in Rio so we had some churrasco at a comida a quilo restaurant with a jar of sangría for dinner. :)
