The last of Sevilla

On day three of Sevilla, Bel came to join us!

We started the day at around 11, after Bel arrived. We walked to Plaza de España first. We walked around the Plaza a bit and then reenacted the scene of Star Wars. (Yes, I memorized my lines and everything). It was pretty fun, and it only took us about three takes. (Tin says the audio can't be heard that well though because the mike isn't strong).

Pretty cool, right?

We then headed back to the city center and passed through the university. While we were walking back we also pointed out stuff to Bel that we had seen the past two days. We walked to her hostel first so she could check in then had lunch at a nearby tapas bar. Oh, when we were looking for a place to eat, we passed by this one restaurant that looked good but had no people eating outside (and there were no waiters either) so it seemed kind of sketchy so I said to the others, "Baka may tao sa loob" (Tagalog for "Maybe there are people inside") and what do you know, the waiter of the restaurant next door was Filipino! Haha. We looked at the menu of his restaurant but it was a but pricey so we didn't eat there.

After lunch we went to visit the Seville Cathedral. The outside alone is impressive and the inside doesn't let down. The Cathedral is huge! It's apparently the biggest cathedral in Spain and also the third largest cathedral in the world! (After the Basilica in the Vatican and St. Paul's in London). I thought that the cathedral closed at 5 but when we went, we saw a sign saying that it would close at 4:30. So I rushed everyone to climb the Giralda (the bell tower) first, just in case they stopped letting people up. The Giralda was pretty easy to climb because instead of stemps there were ramps (35 ramps) then like 17 steps to reach the viewpoint. From there, you get a fantastic view of Sevilla.

The view from the tower. Can you see the Plaza del Toros in the background?

We spent some time up then went back down to see the rest of the Cathedral.

Tadaaaaa!

All of us now

We headed to the Museo de Bellas Artes which is, according to my Fodor's book, the second best museum in Spain after the Prado. We got to go in for free (student discount). The musuem was good but my favorite part was actually a temporary exhibit, the collection of Bellver.

We had a bit of time to spare before our flamenco show so we went back to our hotel for awhile. Then at quarter to 8 we left to look at the place where our show was.

We watched our flamenco show at the Casa de la Memoria Al-Andaluz which was recommended to me by a friend and also my Fodor's guide book. The place was located in the famous Barrio Sta. Cruz so we walked around a bit while simultaneously looking for the place. It was a great place though. It was in a relatively small patio. Instead of a stage there was a wooden tablet on the floor (probably around 5x7 feet) and three chairs for the guitarist and the singer and (what I call) the assistant clapper. Then on three sides the audience seats in folded chairs. The show was really good too. For the first part, the guitarist played while the guy sang. The guy sang with so much emotion and he looked like he was going to cry. (He ended up wiping his tears at the end). Then a woman danced to the guitar and the singer and the clapper for about 20 minutes. Then a guitarist solo for about 10 minutes. Next, the guy danced instead of the woman. Fun fact, male dancers actually dominate flamenco. It's just that the U.S./Hollywood always portrays flamenco with a female dancer (in a red dress no less). The male dancer was really good! At this one point he was gripping his shirt really hard and we all thought he was going to rip it off. (He didn't). We weren't allowed to take photos or videos throughout the show except for the last 5-minute segment; the male and the female dancer danced together. The show was really amazing. While the dancers are dancing I got drawn to their feet. It was really galing what they were doing. And also the guitarist -- the way his fingers were moving. You just can't help but stare.

The show ended at about 10 then we went to look for dinner. We saw Javi at Plaza and stopped a bit to chat. Oh, and we realized why our meal times were off -- we're so indecisive, it takes us half an hour to find a place to eat! After we had dinner, we asked for the check and the waiter didn't want to give it to us. He told us to relax and stay for awhile. It was seriously so weird. So we just sat around waiting for him to give us the check. Still a good day. Haha.
