Day 25 & 26: Relaxing in Belo Horizonte

The past few days have been a bit of relaxing in Belo and watching the World Cup games.

On Sunday we took a drive outside the city to admire the view. The landscape is all mountains, hills, valleys and lots of green.

Those buildings in the background is the city of Belo Horizonte. This is actually only 30 minutes away from the city.
The state of Minas Gerais is surrounded by lots of hills and mountains

We watched the games in the afternoon, and in the evening I heard Sunday mass in Portuguese at a small but lovely church.

The priests homily ran quite long and after mass we (and a several other people) rushed out to watch the Argentina-Iran game. (Yay, my Argentines won with a goal from Messi.)

The next day I had lunch comida por quilo style. There are a lot of restaurants in Brasil that sell their food comida por quilo. Basically, it's a self service buffet; you pile all the food you want on a plate, then you weigh the plate and pay "by the kilo." Prices are usually per 100g, I'm not sure how much ours cost, but it's one of the more inexpensive ways to eat in Brasil (though the base prices were raised for the World Cup).

We had originally planned to watch the afternoon games at the Fan Fest, which are public viewing events organized by FIFA. But apparently in Belo (not sure about the other cities), they don't host the Fan Fest everyday. So we just stayed in, and caught the games at home.
