Now for Round 2 at the Mineirão: Belgium v. Algeria.
I rode to the game with Thiago, a son of Mona's friend, and his girlfriend Paula. Great atmosphere again at the Mineirão. There were a lot of fans from both sides, though Belgium had more than Algeria. (But Algeria still had a lot more than the Greeks).

Walking to the stadium |
I don't know if it's cause we arrived later, but it took us forever to get into the stadium this time. The lines were crazy long. It took us a little under an hour to get in, and we made it in just in time for kick-off.

Long lines to get in |
While we were lining up there was this one Belgian fan painting the Belgian flag on random passers-by. Paula and I got the flags painted on our cheeks.

(Excuse the hipster-ish pic haha) |
Made it to my seat after the national anthems, right on time for kick-off.

Watering the field at half time |
The game was a bit slow on the first half. Thankfully it got more exciting in the second half and Belgium caught up with their late goals.

At the Mineirão |
Full time 2-0 at the Mineirão! After the game, we headed to a friend's house to watch Brasil v. Mexico.
|
Getting frustrated because Ochoa kept blocking all of Brasil's attempts |
Despite the 0-0 scoreline it was a good game and really exciting to watch. We then decided to go out and catch the Russia-South Korea game in Savassi, in one of the outdoor screening areas. When we got there though it was really full, and they weren't letting anyone in.

In Savassi, popular party center |
We walked around instead and had some ice cream and watched parts of the game there.

Showing the game, of course |
It was a fun day watching all three matches in different places!
