Day 76 & 77: Downtown San José and Jacó

In San José we were staying with Juanma (one of the Costa Rican kids from Angela's CISV camp last year) and his family. They were so nice taking us around and telling us what we could do in the Costa Rica. After getting a good rest and lunch, we spent the afternoon at downtown San José. We walked around Plaza de la Cultura, the heart of downtown San José.

There are plenty of museums located by the plaza. We visited two of them, the Museo del Oro Precolombino and the Museo Numismática (about gold and money). They were all right but nothing great.

After visiting the museums we stopped by the Teatro Nacional, a beautiful building modeled after the Paris Opera House and in neo-classical style.

It had such a lavish marble lobby.

The next day, we headed to the beach for some R&R. It was nice and warm, a nice change from cold South America. On our way to the beach we passed by the Tarcoles River...

...apparently famous for its bridge where there are always plenty crocodiles gathered under.

We spent the day at Jacó, a beach about 2 hourrs from Costa Rica.

It's also a very popular surfing spot. We saw quite a few surfers trying to catch the waves. Ange and I unsuccessfully tried to go swimming (the waves were too big and just sent us tumbling around). :)

We had a late lunch after hitting the beach. Tried some typical Costa Rican food; I had costillas de res (beef short ribs) with lentils, avocado, and rice. So good!

We were back in San José by the late afternoon. In the evening, I met up with the Costa Rican delegation from my CISV camp 7 years ago! Unfortunately though only 2 of them could make it, but it was still a really great evening catching up. :)

With Ró and Beli!
