Day 84 & 85: Virginia lasts + trip to New York

On my last full day of Virginia, Fonso actually left for Europe, so Tita Olyn took the afternoon off to drive him to the airport, then we went around after. First up, we drove to Maryland to visit the National Harbor.

It's a fairly new waterfront; with lots of shops and even a ferris wheel. It was a nice and windy day when we visited.

Afterwards, we drove back to Virginia and visited the Arlington National Cemetery, a huge military cemetery.

The graves of President John F. Kennedy and his wife are there too.

We visited the Tomb of the Unknowns right before leaving and watched the changing of the guards. The Tomb of the Unknowns/The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated to the soldiers who died without their remains being identified, and is guarded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The changing of the guard happens every 30 minutes when the park is open (and every 2 hours, I think, at night).

Our last stop of the day was the Marine Corps War Memorial, more popular called the Iwo Jima memorial due to the iconic photograph the sculpture takes after. The memorial is dedicated to those in the U.S. Marine Corps who died in defense.

On the base of the statue are the wars/places in which Marine Corps died, one of which was Bataan & Corregidor.

The next day, Moni and I took the Megabus to New York. It was a 6 hour journey, and we arrived in New York at around 7pm.

I took a cab to my tita's place and then we had some peking duck for dinner!
